About the NKF Executive Councils

The National Kidney Foundation has four (4) professional Councils which constitute the following membership bodies within the NKF Professional Membership program:

  • Nurse and Technician members: National Kidney Foundation Council of Nephrology Nurses and Technicians (CNNT)
  • Social Worker members: National Kidney Foundation Council of Nephrology Social Workers (CNSW)
  • Dietitian members: National Kidney Foundation Council on Renal Nutrition (CRN)
  • Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant/Associate, and Clinical Nurse Specialist members: National Kidney Foundation Council of Advanced Practice Providers (CAPP)

Through the NKF Professional Membership program, NKF partners with the Councils to provide resources and education to support nephrology professionals through their journey to improve clinical practice and achieve the best patient outcomes. Each of the Councils has a governing and representative body called the Executive Council (EC). The EC functions as a volunteer advisory and representative committee to the NKF within the framework of the NKF Professional Membership program. Through the EC, the Council aims to:

  • Advise the NKF on policies related to standards of excellence in nephrology healthcare practice, kidney health legislation, equity in kidney care, and contribute to professional and public kidney disease education programs
  • Foster professional identity, development, networking and collaboration among nephrology healthcare professionals who join NKF Professional Membership
  • Promote and recommend the NKF Professional Membership program to the nephrology healthcare community through active recruitment and retention of members
  • Represent and advance the interests and welfare of nephrology healthcare professionals
  • Promote research and education related advancements in Kidney Disease
Each Council operates autonomously with the support of NKF to represent and advocate for their profession within the field of nephrology, utilizing the NKF Council Operating Procedures. These operating procedures outline the requirements and benefits of serving on the EC and are to be utilized as a guide for organizing annual goals, workflow, and operations.
